In Melbourne if I buy a bed I can try before I buy. Mattress try outs are essential and encouraged at all the big bed stores. Not so much here in Morocco. I bought my mattresses from a supermarket here, no trial by sprawling on offer. I chose by price and luckily it all worked out. But if you venture further afield you can buy/haggle literally from the back of a truck with a possibility to try. I passed these ‘outlets’ on the way to lunch and then by the time I returned the ‘salesmen’ were all having a midday snooze on the displayed goods. Maybe this makes them secondhand and you can bargain for a lower price !
The sterile supermarket scene was left far behind and a group of us arrived in style...by local bus no 25...at the Ourika Monday market. Every man and his donkey seemed to be there happily haggling. The sun shone and the local produce glistened. We made our purchases before picnicking and it truly was another ‘best day’ in Morocco !
A big wooden thumbs up sculpture greets you on arrival at Ourika Garden. It truly sets the tone. It’s a thumbs up type of place...more than in fact. We had a glorious outdoor lunch surrounded by landscaped mountain gardens. The service from the hotel manager Said was so warm and hospitable and the traditional food from the small menu was delicious. I went right into the very professional kitchen to see our lunch cooking and saw herbs being snipped from the garden by the chef. There is a very lovely pool and even a children’s play area. Said showed us the fabulous hotel rooms all with open fire places...all very impressive. I will be going back for sure and can highly highly recommend.
