London seems to be the place to go for donuts ! I did not buy and did not try for the simple reason that one is never enough and neither is two. I cannot be trusted near donuts. I just have to inhale the warm sugary, yeasty smell and I become weak and pathetic and there could be visible drool....so best stick to photos and keep my hands on the camera and be quick about it then rapidly walk in the opposite direction as soon as possible.
There are some traditional salads that are the mainstay on most Moroccan menus and I love them always. In fact I could make them my entire meal and leave the table very satisfied....but that’s not the Moroccan way, there is always more and more food to come. This first course is made up of cooked salads served warm or at room temperature and most commonly include individual serves of carrots, beans, peppers, tomato and zucchini ...then as well there might be lentils , a sweetish pumpkin one and my favourite which resembles a type of ratatouille called zaalouk. And always served with delicious bread ! Bon Appetit !
“To die for” bread was being made as we arrived ! Our guide’s mum was in charge and she is definitely a brilliant baker. She does this task daily for her family and guests. The little mud oven is her only appliance. The flattened bread dough is cooked on the hot sides of it. We ate it hot, like we had never seen food before.
Our day trip included two delicious and filling Moroccan meals. The nine of us gasped audibly and hungrily as we saw our breakfast table starring a local version of a crumpet called Beghrir, served traditionally with honey of course made by local bees. Easy recipe to follow so do try this at home !
