These are tiny spongy yeasty pancakey type things heavily doused in icing sugar. You could call them Dutch street food as often they are made and served on the spot from street stands or stalls. They are made in a heavy cast iron type pan that my mother would have called a gem scone pan. The stall we came across was run by a very wise man as he had parked his cart almost on the bike path and the wafting buttery smell nearly had cyclists falling off their bikes in anticipation !
