But it actually wasn’t ....we went in and had freshly squeezed juice, coffee and Moroccan cookies. So don’t believe everything you read #fakesign
Further to the hilarious blog post by Kathi Black, here is Polly the Panther aka as Polly Woods Gardinya, basking in some winter sun and making fluffy shadows on the wall
Morocco is associated mainly with desert and heat and yes, there’s a lot of that going on but just not right now. Winter here is cold, really cold. The snow can be seen from my building and is only 90 minutes away. Like Asia most homes are designed to be cool over summer so when the chill hits, everyone rugs up and we all complain bitterly. There’s no central heating or electric blankets so you can see why my hot water bottle has become like an appendage ! Luckily winter is short here, not like Melbourne where you can shiver for six months.
I was plucked out of 2018 and taken back centuries today in the Medina. Luckily we had a trusty guide as I think without him most of us would still be wandering long into the future. There were no familiar landmarks, just more and more winding alleyways, all quite disorienting but at the same time fascinating as I thought about how many people had wended their way before me, over the same uneven cobbled pathways.
Lunch after my guided walk was on a rooftop in the sun at this great little cafe. Fresh bread and black olive tapenade was bought to the table on our arrival. Eight different people ordered eight different meals. Our waitress remembered every item, without writing a single word down. The food was fresh and delicious. My bowl of harira accompanied by a syrupy chabekia was roughly 2.5 euros. I can highly recommend this little lunch spot !
