I think this is a familiar theme as I notice it everywhere then always talk about it ! So boring, sorry ! But Melbourne and green seem just now to be hand in hand ...I seem to notice it every day everywhere I look ...and that’s unusual as it’s Summer here and Melbourne in Summer is often brown, dry and drought stricken.
Melbourne is the capital of the state of Victoria and this state has long been known as the garden state. I had a wander last night around the inner city suburb I am staying in and really enjoyed seeing the individuality in every garden . The little front gardens are not bigger than a pocket handkerchief but most of them were overflowing with greenery. All the veggies impressed me too....I love a bit of self sufficiency !
My Mum is 93 and lives in a fabulous community for the independent elderly. The location is inner city with lots of shops and public transport nearby. Everyone has their own cottage, built in the 1890s ....but the interiors are all contemporary and decked out with handrails and non slip flooring and security bells for the aged occupant. The gardens are wonderful and there is a library and a cafe if you don’t feel like cooking. There are movie nights and tai chi lessons and sewing groups etc if you want to take advantage of them. I think I will put my name down....I want the cottage with the clock tower !!
It’s summer holidays in Australia and today in Melbourne was colder than a winters day in Marrakech ! 21 degrees....pathetic really ! But regardless, everyone goes to the beach...including me ! I was at Barwon Heads . The Barwon river is fabulous because the banks are all wide and sandy like a beach.
