Craft South

The owner of this wonderful shop in Nashville has a link somehow to Australia and my sister knew of this store. She asked me to go on her behalf as she would never get to travel to the USA to see it. So I put it at the top of my Nashville itinerary. It's not only about basic craft supplies but sells amazing fabrics for quilters, gifts , handmade clothes, interesting yarns plus runs workshops. Beginners can learn to sew and knit, children can make their own dream catcher, gifted craft people reveal secrets in their lectures and on the extensive list goes. The talent is really laid on here and I wish I lived close by to learn some skills from them. I had to make do with making a few purchases.....no hardship at all. I chose an array of fabulous patchwork material for my clever and 'crafty' sister in Melbourne. Parcel posted too....let's just hope it arrives !

An Apple a Day...

The apple trees are laden in the Imlil region of the Atlas Mountains.....lots and lots of crispy green and red apples are hanging like baubles in the foliage. So different to February when the blossom was just starting and the trees looked as if dusted by floral snow. Now the picking has started and there are fruit boxes piled along the roads and tracks waiting to be filled...then off to market and then into pies.....and crumbles.

Individual Peach Crumbles

After my Atlas Mountain lunch in Imlil, we came down the mountain to a market town called Asni where there are many orchards. Fruit sellers sit by the side of the road every few meters selling freshly picked seasonal fruit. At this time of year it is apples and peaches. I purchased two delicious kilos of each for a total of around three dollars. Today I transformed some golden peaches into a yummy dessert which can be breakfast too. Serve with yogurt, orders taken .

Lunch at a Homestay

This amazing traditional home cooked lunch experience is not to be missed if you are visiting Morocco. Forget the touristy stuff and choose authentic. Mount a trusty mule or don your hike boots and visit a Berber village for lunch with a mountain view , relax in peace with only the muted sounds of sheep and goats in the background. I promise this is a day of mountain magic so just get in touch if you want this daytrip of a lifetime!!

A Stressful Decision

Oh the choices....where should I prop myself for the afternoon ? When you visit Kasbah Bab Ourika, decisions need to be made. Full sun, part sun, part shade or full shade, terrace, garden, patio ?? All are beautiful, there is no wrong decision so try them all and soak up the views and the ambience.

 

A Ten Year Project

This 30 meter stone wall frieze in Peggys Cove, Nova Scotia "Monument to Fisherman" was never finished sadly. It is a granite carving of 32 fisherman and their families under the protection of the angel St Elmo. The sculptor died before it's completion. He was a well known Finnish artist William deGarthe and he lived in and loved Nova Scotia.

 

 

 

Another Cat Story

This is the cat among the onions story, not among the pigeons !! I was in the little shop under my building buying water when a very old man wearing a very tropical tee shirt came into the shop with a cat in a colander. These colanders are used for filling up with onions and then get put on the scales. He said loudly "Combien de kilos" to the boys serving....great hilarity all round. The off he shuffled placing cat and colander back into onion pile ! Expect the unexpected rings true once again.
