The Plitvice Lakes National Park , with its 16 crystalline lakes, is an unmissable day trip, best from either Zadar or Zabgreb . We went by mini bus on a small group tour. We were warned not to stray as brown bears live in this park and warned not to swim as there might be reptiles lurking. I saw dogs on leads and many trout but no bear sightings !! The whole park is well organised and the 8 km walking through takes place on rustic wooden planks or duckboards. We got ushered on and off electric boats - no standing or overcrowding and do not lose your ticket - and Mercedes 'trains' are used to move large excursions around to view panoramas. There are two exits, 20 toilets and pricey bottles of water . That said, it was a fabulous day trip, the park is absolutely beautiful , truly memorable. Do not miss it, do not miss Croatia !!
