The village of Castelmola sits on a massive rocky clifftop in Sicily (1800 meters above sea level, population around 1000 ). Built into that cliff is a tiny chapel in a cave with only four pews. I am sure most people walk straight past as it is well camouflaged and has a big wrought iron grill across it. There is a big statue of San Pio standing majestically beside the altar. He is a famous friar and mystic from the 1800s. It was lovely to see this miniature little place of worship filled with lots of fresh spring flowers but sad it was not open to the public.
We found a chapel in a cliff in Spain - but abandoned, not like this beauty!
