Since moving across the world I have come across a load of airlines I had never heard of before. In Australia basically two or three airlines have a total monopoly. So I have now flown with many of these including Vueling, Jetstar, Ryanair who wanted last year to charge for toilet paper, Transavia and more. Last week I flew with Air Berlin and Air Iberia, both not considered budget airlines. The only thing this really means is that you don't pay extra for checked luggage. Air Berlin was ok and even served a snack. In reality they provided horrible coffee and literally threw a small bread roll down beside it. Air Iberia was punctual and quite roomy but all food and drink had to be purchased. Coffee in attractive paper cup was 2.5 euros. I paid it out of desperation as it was a 7.20 am flight. Luckily it was a great cup of very strong proper coffee. In the 'olden' days a flight was fun and anticipated gleefully as the start of an adventure. Now it has become just a no frills bus ride in the air.
I remember those wonderful flights when everyone dressed for the occasion and service was lovely and the food at least edible. Now..... shudder!
