How wonderful it is knowing your dinner plate is heaped with freshly dug up root vegetables. I watched the gardener hoeing and picking, saw the beautiful produce and ate the very excellent Seven Vegetable Couscous in the restaurant at Manzil de Tortue. I experienced first hand this garden to tagine scenario and know there is no better way to eat. In Melbourne I grew my own herbs and tomatoes and while this sunny climate would be perfect for that, they would have to be in pots on my balcony which would dry out the minute my back was turned. The logistics of getting pots and soil into my apartment with my lack of local language skills would be another challenge . But the thought of a sun warmed fresh from the vine tomato is really quite an incentive.
You could do one tomato plant.... A friend in Andorra had an entire vegetable garden on his balcony - even sweet corn!
