As in every country in the world there is a great gap here in Morocco between the haves and the have nots. The rich are very rich and the poor are often homeless and destitute, begging on the streets. Many charities exist, most of them expat driven. I belong to AWAIM {American Women's International Association of Morocco}. Due to lack of Americans we are an eclectic mix, a marvellous multicultural group of ladies. The only criteria is that you must be English speaking. Every Ramadan boxes of groceries are packed up and delivered to poor families, mainly widows with children. This enables them to put food on their table each evening for Ftour. The box includes traditional goods like dates, green tea, lentils, chick peas and spices. Milk Powder is always in the box too as many of the families have no fridge to store fresh milk. All this is done purely through donation and it is wonderful to see.
