How amazing is it when you travel and something unexpected unfolds before your eyes. It is even better when it involves pomp and ceremony. Wandering close to the magnificent St. Vita Cathedral in the centre of the Old Town we came across a cordoned off area that enclosed marching bands and soldiers saluting and brandishing their bayonets. We deduced that a visiting dignitary and his wife had arrived in Prague and was inspecting 'the troops'. The impeccable red and blue uniforms stood out against the cream civil buildings and bleak grey skies. A surprise to us was to see a 'skivvy' worn as part of the uniform presumably to ward of the year round Czech chilliness. The band was playing a rousing welcome anthem. It gave me a homesick moment of yearning to hear Waltzing Matilda.
