Originally back in 2013 on my first trip to Morocco I was very surprised to be served turkey. In my mind it was just served at Thanksgiving and Christmas and not something I associated with North Africa. But turkey kebabs or brochettes are very often on menus here and these wonderful lemony skewers were cooked to juicy perfection, as I watched, over a very low brazier at the riad where I work. Apparently poultry consumption in this country accounts for well over 50% of all meats eaten here in Morocco with well over 250 poultry farms supplying this demand. It has become so popular due to the high cost of red meat.
Bowls of very yellow saffron rice accompanied our turkey kebabs.
And then a chocolate torte full of dates and almonds enveloped in meringue was our dessert. What a wonderful meal !! We serve dinner nightly on request at the riad so if you come this way I highly recommend splurging - 20 euros, 3 courses and come to the table hungry !!
Love the food and love the dishes.... Can't wait!
