Recently I was a guest at a luncheon, a small and delightful catered for event. Entree was a yoga class for the guests that took place on the lawn in front of the villa. Drinks, bread and olives followed this, also outside, in the Moroccan sunshine. Then on being called to lunch we duly proceeded inside to a wonderful table laden with Vietnamese dishes. So lovely and so unexpected . Asian food is a favourite of mine and not commonly seen here in Marrakech. A talented husband and wife team, originally from Vietnam, followed by 35 years living in Paris have now set up a catering business here and they deserve every success. The food was beyond excellent. Spring rolls, prawn filled rice paper rolls, rice flour pancakes sprinkled with little crispy onions, bowls of pho, stir fries of meat and vegetables - we had it all and every mouthful was delicious.
It was greatly evocative too for me after many Asian holidays [and take aways] plus quite a surprise when Morocco is so far removed from Vietnam in so many, many ways. Just seeing the coriander gave me some pangs of home sickness.
I was so surprised when we first moved to France and saw the Vietnamese food everywhere... Love it! What a fun lunch.
