Fever Tree tonic was served to me one night in London. I was not familiar with this brand but that maybe because it is not {sadly} readily available in Australia. Schweppes seems to be the biggest name in tonic water there. But this name fascinated me so I did a bit of googling and I learnt some amazing new things. There is actually a tree called the cinchona tree known commonly as the fever tree and the bark from this tree contains quinine which is a major component of tonic water. This UK company sources their quinine from trees on the Rwanda Congo border. Their bottled products contain no preservatives or artificial sweeteners or flavourings. They have a small but delectable range of seven carbonated beverages including Elderflower Tonic water - how wonderful does that sound. They even sell a gift pack so you can sample all seven.
I never drink tonic water, but when I had a bad leg cramp a few weeks ago, some people told me to drink tonic water. Apparently the quinine helps relieve cramps. No idea if it did the trick, but the cramp went away eventually - took a few hours though!
