When I grew up strawberries and other soft fruit were a highlight of summer. Over time they became more readily available at other times of year, either frozen or fresh at a high price. Now I think we all just take it for granted that we can get anything virtually anytime. So strawberries in London in mid winter ??? Of course but only if you want to pay three pounds a punnet. I was not tempted. I like strawberries but don't love them and if fact like them best when they are cooked - weird I know !!
I bought a punnet of strawberries at my local shop for 99pence yesterday and they were from Morocco! I normally try to not buy fruit out of season, but I could not ignore fruit from Morocco now, could I??

We can buy strawberries pretty much year-round here too, but they just aren't the same as the red, juicy, luscious local berries that we have here for a few weeks every summer :-) I go berry picking a couple of times a week to satisfy my craving!
