All the riads or old houses here have fabulous rooftop gardens and patio areas. In the olden days when women were forbidden to leave the house these rooftops were there domain and sanctuary, bringing the outside in. Riad Sesame has a high wall around the roof top but you can still see other higher gardens and the main Kotoubia mosque. Wonderful also to see they are using solar energy.
I love looking at all your photos.... makes me farsick LOL It also reminds me of some of the areas in southern Spain - the tile work and intricate walls and screens - very Moorish.

Wow. Can you imagine not ever being allowed to leave your house? The rooftop gardens look beautiful, but I'd go nuts not being able to go anywhere else outdoors!
