My sister has been away in Souther India for nearly 3 weeks and I have not heard a word from her until today. She has experienced endless internet and phone problems, none of which is surprisng !! I am posting part of her email here plus some of her photos . She writes of things I found most interesting, like the yellow cows and I wanted to share these !!!
"seems like I can only get on the "faulty towers" wi-fi at 6AM! That's not to say I actually receive any new mail, usually I just get AGAIN all the messages I deleted in the past. Very annoying. Plus my phone doesn't work even though 2 people have checked my settings and it is showing as connected on the local provider! Other than that NO grizzles, I am having a lovely time. I got a nice quote for you yesterday when we were invited to lunch at the home of an educated upper middle class family. Meals are still served on a banana leaf on the floor, and I was told that children are encouraged to "clean their leaves", in exactly the same way that we as children were instructed to clear our plates!I love the food, I would be happy to eat only South Indian food every day for the rest of my life! And clean my leaves! At the end of the meal you fold your leaf in half towards you and then the leaves are collected and put outside for passing cows to eat. In Mysore (where I am now) many of the cows are coloured yellow (with turmeric) and yesterday I even saw a yellow coloured goat, but could not take a photo because I was speeding past it in a rickshaw."
