Spending a day with family and friends is the total focus of our Christmas, plus a generous amount of eating. We keep gift giving to the bare minimum with a themed Kris Kringle and this helps to keep expenses down at an expensive time of year. As we do each year the whole family meets at Brunettis, our favourite cafe in Carlton then after this mini celebration everyone then moves onto their other committments . No one misses this lovely part of our Xmas celebrations and the cake and coffee are a wonderful way to start the day.
We then disperse and a lunch for friends and families folows at my house, a very late lunch with everyone bringing a festive dish to share. We always eat outside at long tables with people coming and going at various stages of the meal. As so many of my family are vegetarians we have created our own traditions though my mother at 89 still brings a token platter of ham and turkey.
After eating we all go into a very relaxed mode, more champagne is opened, more Harvey Wallbanger punch is consumed and more friends appear to share laughter and chat.
Sounds like the perfect day, Kate.
