Winning Cake for Cup Day

I may have not backed a winner yesterday, in fact my horse ran last !! But a cake I made was deemed a winner by all family members at our annual Cup day family get together. Pecan and cinnamon were the main flavours and the chantilly cream in the middle was just er.... the icing on the cake, so to speak.

I guess it was the Melbourne Cup that was being run? I used to love watching horse racing, but there was a stretch when horses kept getting injured running the Kentucky Derby so I stopped watching. I watched it this past May for the first time in ages, and wouldn't you know it - the horse that won the Derby & Preakness ended up getting injured and had to be retired. So I'm back to not watching again.
