I was not clever enough to make this Banoffee Pie but I was lucky enough to taste it. S was attending a dinner and needed to take a dessert. It was a hard decision as she wanted to impress but it was to feed adults and small children alike plus be easy to make and then transport. Her creation totally fitted the brief plus looked outstanding.
It was not too sweet, not too rich and most children eat bananas !!
Comfort food was called for and we hadn't had a crumble in ages. I unearthed an icy, blurry mass from the freezer and on thawing found it was plums, frozen last summer. On occasion it is quite hard to tell whether items in my freezer are sweet or savoury. Pasta sauce can look like frozen plums !! And I never remember to label the containers !
Here go the oats, butter, flour, brown sugar and lots of cinnamon - all whizzed in the food processor.
Here are my thawed plums - red and yellow fleshed ones - from last summer, pitted too !!
Now bring on the cream, custard or ice cream or even all three if you did a spin class today !!
Today with A , I met up with M and R at Dolcetti, a tiny cafe close to the Queen Victoria market. There are about 5 tables only and the ambience is that of Italian shabby chic. It sounds like an unusual combination but it certainly works. The coffee was aromatic and strong and the sweet offerings were dainty and elegant. Lots of the pastries had already sold out which speaks volumes. I can testify personally that the baby doughnuts were fabulous.
I enjoyed just fabulous coffee and baby Italian custard dough nuts today at Dolcetti. This is a tiny cafe with exquisite sweet offerings.
Well up till now, there has been no garden. My back garden was totally removed in order to get a new fence. My fence is now built and spraypainted charcoal. A new garden , although still in its infancy, is looking good and remains undug up {as yet} by the canine members of this family. A row of ficus is at the back, then something with a name I do not recall sits in the middle row and then white bush roses will eventually cascade over the brickwork. And a great highlight is a new cherry tree , now planted beside the original singleton. Their double foliage over the summer will provide shade and help block some heat.
This was a spectacular outing, enjoyed by all at the Gables. This is a sprawling Edwardian mansion that has for years been a beautiful place for weddings and other functions. Now High Tea has been added to their repertoire. The photos below just say it all. I can't wait to go back !!
Not chocolate mousses !These little cups held latte mousse topped with a latte jelly.
This is where my children took me yesterday as a surprise !! They even made me wear a blindfold in the car !! We had High Tea and I will post some photos tomorrow . It was lovely to sit in front to the fire in this magnificent old Edwardian house eating scones and butterfly cakes.
A fail safe family pleaser !! Vanilla flecked custard and fruit is always delidious and can be eaten - well, in our family, anyway - for any meal !! Often I am lucky to get the custard into a bowl as there are people scooping from the pot before it even cools properly !!
On a Wednesday my alarm goes off at 5 past 5 - am, that is - I struggle out of bed and head to the gym for a spin class. The class starts at 1/4 to 6 and goes for an hour. It is always packed, no spare bikes to bee seen and it is one tough endurance test, sweat and pain to the max. But once that hour is over then come the rewards. Mine today was a bowl of porridge with a not so teeny sprinkling of brown sugar and cinnamon and every mouthful was marvellous.
