Our hike today took us through this gorge - an engineering feat of duckboard pathways that take you up and around the roaring maelstrom of waters. It was too dark to take pictures so I have cut and pasted some just to give you an idea of how incredible it was.
"The natural monument of Seisenbergklamm gorge in Weißbach bei Lofer began to develop when ice from the
last ice age started melting away. In 1831 lumberjacks built a track through the gorge to transport wood. Today the gorge is about 600 metres long and 50 metres deep and visitors are led through this nature‘s spectacle on perfectlydeveloped catwalks. Considered as the gate to the nature park Weißbach, Seisenbergklamm gorge is the perfect starting point for many walking tours. And maybe you will even meet the spirit of the gorge …! "
Wow! I can't even imagine the feat it was to build those catwalks! Looks like a beautiful place for a hike :-)
