Potatoes, carrots, zucchini, yellow peppers, feta and cheddar ! This was so delicious and healthy too. It was pretty basic to prepare - just peel and dice mainly. Cooking time was about 40 fan forced minutes and it's great to eat either hot or at room temperature. Greatly recommended to all, vegetarians and otherwise.
Or rather, dogs in carpet heaven ! This house has polished boards throughout and my dogs like soft carpets and mats and human beds to lie on despite having their own designated soft and snug beds. I am just now adding a few rugs around the house and of course the dogs are overjoyed thinking every new rug has been positioned just for them to catch some shut eye or a few rays of sun.
The weekend has been spent doing home duties and continuing with the creation of my new nest. There has been endless shifting around of furniture, trips to Bunnings, drilling , carpet unrolling and general sorting. Amidst this ongoing domesticity we did take time out in the sun. T, S, L and I had what has become a bit of a regular Sunday thing and lunched together. Ruby tinged drinks - pink grapefruit, red orange and beetroot and apple - were on out drink order.
Baked rice pudding is truly an oldie dating as far back as the 13th century, possibly originating from the Middle East. And it certainly must be a goodie if we are all still enjoying it today. For me, this is comfort food but because it just cooks happily away in the oven for about 2 hours it is carefree comfort too. Only one bowl/baking dish needed and it can be eaten for breakfast, lunch or dinner. What more could anyone want especially when a variety of flavours can be added while it is cooking. I added cinnamon and nutmeg this time. A variety of adornments can also be added after the cooking including dried or fresh fruit or chocolate or cereals. It can be served in a rustic manner or elegantly layered in a parfait glass. With rice pudding, versatility reigns supreme.
Here is an idea - from America. It really is one for the carnivores. Looks fun for a bbq !
A hamburger pattie is crisscrossed with bacon and hot dogs are posted to be legs and head into the corners. To make sure this is cooked all the way through it would presumably be done in the oven then maybe finished on the bbq hot plate. I am not a huge meat eater but this does look cute and I would be happy to eat one, a very small one though, a terapin sized one would do me .
At last it has arrived ! I ordered it at least a month ago and last night it was delivered as a flat pack. I found it on Ebay and ordered it to help me out in my storage crisis. Now, in its constructed state, I love it. The colour is buttermilk and it is on wheels. The inside bit is now filled with my Costco supply of flour as I buy in bulk. There really is quite a bit of space in the hidey hole middle bit and all the shelves are quite deep. I am thrilled, it is such a cutie !
This happens to the best of us I am sure ! Some cakes get scoffed down and some get scoffed at. The poor , sad dry ones can get a new lease of life and today I found a great recipe that does just that. And the proof is in the pudding as half has gone already.
The recipe is called an Apple Pudding Cake and called for graham cracker crumbs and walnuts. I substituted crumbled fruit cake for these ingredients. I was generous with the diced apple too and my pudding cake is perfectly cooked through, moist and delicious. I don't like waste so my old cake has been wonderfully recycled. Email me if you too could use the recipe to reincarnate a reject.
