The whole of blogland probably knows of my love of comfort foods like rice pudding, custard, crumbles, chocolate anything, soups, homemade bread etc. On and on goes this endless list of comfortable consumable carbs that I and a multitude of others - surely and hopefully - turn to in times of happiness and sadness or at really any opportune moment. I am also a comfort cooker and when I feel displaced or needy I turn to my kitchen to bake. I may not even eat the end result but just seek the solace of the familiar - utensils, ingredients and the warm oven or stove top. I suppose it gives me an escape route from whatever is causing me angst, a chance to concentrate on creating a meal or other delectable, time to think only of the recipe, the method, the outcome and the family who will enjoy it. Today an apple Brown Betty was my focus and not the irksome real estate market.
