I have embarked on an adventure. Quinoa is an ingredient I have never purchased or eaten or cooked with before. Till today, anyway !! What fun, after cooking since dinosaurs roamed,to find for myself an untapped ingredient ! I purchased 1kg or organic quinoa for $9.95 from a local naturopath. I have wandered around the internet looking at recipes so then proceeded to cook 2 cups of it in boiling water. That bit really is akin to cooking rice. The texture and taste is closely related to couscous for me. I dropped a couple of big scoops into vegetable soup and created a rustic hearty and very healthy meal. I recommend this culinary adventure to all.
I do quinoa quite often - MUCH healthier than couscous and everyone seems to like the cute little curl shapes that emerge when the grains are cooked... I use the absorption method exactly as I do for rice, then you don't even need to drain it!

Quinoa (still have trouble pronouncing it!} is still one of my least-used ingredients in my pantry. Must try it in minestone. The same for me - lots of recipe searching but not much luck. Alas, the last packet went into the compost - the weevils had discovered it before my cooking had! Time to purchase another pack and HOW much did you pay?
Inflation!!!
