Last year my daughter S spent many months working in Japan. She was there this time last year. I cannot imagine my terror if she was still working there now. Instead she is safe and sound back home. My thoughts are with all the Japanese families suffering right now, grieving, displaced, scared and scarred. I have not visited Japan but have hosted quite a few Japanese exchange students over the years. I do wonder where they are amidst all the chaos and strife post tsunami and quake.
Here is one little paper crane bought from a lady who made one thousand origami paper cranes to sell at a local craft market to raise funds to help with disaster relief in Japan. The paper crane, a contemporary symbol of world peace, also has a traditional meaning . Anyone who folds 1000 origami paper cranes will have a wish granted by a crane, a wish for health and longevity. That is what I wish for all Japanese people and more. My heart goes out to them at this time.
The photos coming out of Japan are truly ghastly - the crane so pretty and very timely. I'd like to learn how to make them...

I love your origami crane, and it's such a great symbol for the fundraising effort.
What's happening in Japan is so heartbreaking. I hope all your exchange students and their families are safe.
