The dilapidated fence between me and my lovely next door neighbours has come down and a new one will be in situ by tomorrow night. Meanwhile we have to all try to keep our pets on our own properties using various barriers as they have dogs, cats and chooks and I have the Cocoa Pop and Lucy[dog]. While the dogs may happily mingle together I fear for their chooks and cats if my dogs decided to see what was what next door.
Two sad and black bananas were calling to me when I finally dragged myself out of bed this morning. I had Sunday-itis very badly mainly due to the endless dreary drizzle but the success with this cake has given my day a bit of a lift. I normally never use fancy tins as I have a bad track record with "stuck" cakes which then "splunge" in bits out of the tin when it is upturned. Not so today - the baking gods were on my side and my banana bundt cake emerged picture perfect and unscathed from the tin.
I adore tomatoes. My family have seen me eat meal after meal just of diced fresh tomatoes with a little parmesan and black pepper on them. I love the smell and grow them each year. A warm sunripened tomato picked and then put straight into a salad is one of my great culinary loves. Roma tomatoes are such a gorgeous shape and when I can find the mini version I am always overjoyed. These ones went into a vegetarian pasta meal made totally on the hop along with black olives, rocket and cheese.

Just a very quick post tonight - I do like flamingos - a lot !! This is a fabulous random shot !!This morning at the gym I was handed a box. I was not expecting a box or any type of gift so I got quite a surprise. F handed me a white cake box and on opening it there was a glorious lemon cake.
It was a lemon polenta cake - it looks such perfection, doesn't it ? I had given F a bag of lemons from my tree and she had shared them with her sister N. N had baked this cake as a thank you for me. I was quite overcome and quite excited and quite desperate to cut a big slice.
Of course I had to wait till after the gym session ! I spent the hour of training with the thought of that cake in the back of my mind ! I did eventually get home and have a slice - or two ! Moist and lemony with divine icing - oh thank you so much N.
These are also known as Nigella Lawson's Cocktail Sausages. It is a wonderfull easy recipe where chippolatas are baked in the oven in a dousing of soy sauce, honey and sesame oil. I make a variation on her theme and add a large helping of sweet chili sauce into the mix. The liquid becomes syrupy and you need a fork, plate and napkin and you can't stop at one either !!
