My father was English and I grew up with a scones and jam and cream type of childhood. Scones appeared regularly most Sunday afternoons at about 4pm. I am not quite sure what age I was when I realized Americans called scones "biscuits'. Biscuits to me were either bought at the supermarket in a packet and made by Arnotts or Brockhoff or made at home by my mother and were Anzacs, Afghans, Melting Moments, Custard Creams, Monte Carlos etc. So you can imagine how nonplussing it was when I read the words "biscuits and gravy' in novels or in American Womans Day back in the 70's. My stomach turned thinking of Anzacs biscuits served with gravy , as you can imagine !!! I now know better thankfully and last night followed a biscuit recipe but made scones. In fact it was a savoury recipe and I made a scone loaf featuring ham, cheese and chives to serve with soup,
