For the last 18 months I have had a steady stream of glorious blooms left on my porch by my lovely neighbour, a flower buyer for a florist. Now he has left this job and is heading off on some extended travels. I have been so spoilt and have loved every single stem and stamen and will miss this privilege immensely. Thank you Zac and bon voyage.
Here we are mid March, early Autum and my cherry tree has blossom on it. It must be terribly confused but for no apparent reason. Our summer has been hot as expected, so far autum has been warm to mild which is normal. What is not normal though is the appearance of the blossom. Should I expect fruit in winter ??
I cannot remember when it last rained - I think it must be some weeks now. I have been pouring the water onto the vegie garden to keep it up and running. So although I will get a big water bill, I am also harvesting on a daily basis - parsley, basil, tom thumb tomatoes and wonderful long, thin yellow capsicums. The eggplant and zucchini plants look robust and full of promise for the weeks to come.
We all get so much rubbishy email stuff that goes round and round. Pics of all sorts of things and places, people and animals come to me, some of interest and some toally not. But these two photos are too cute not to share and made me smile to myself last week. They are probably totally contrived and photo shopped to the nth degree but still so sweet and I am such a sucker for dog photos !!
My lovely florist neighbour left this gorgeous orchid spray for me on the porch during the week. It was enveloped in cellophane with the stem in its own little sealed and water filled tube. Each flower on the stem is creamy white with a pink speckled "butterfly" pattern on the centre petals.
Over the years I have done a few phone surveys but I do on the whole avoid this type of thing. I certainly wouldn't cross town at 5 pm to discuss brands of fabric softener but today I am doing an hour long survey at my local supermarket. As it is 5 minutes walk way it was hard to say no. Remuneration is a $50 store voucher.
I am thrilled by this and will dive back in to spend it when the hour is up. Now do I fill my trolley with exotic little treats I usually never buy or do I go the pragmatic boring path and fill the trolley with dog food and toilet paper ?? Jury is still out on this weighty decision !!
I knew I had a cherry tree and when I first moved in to this house 18 months ago, my gardener friend said it was very sick and to chop it down. Well, I didn't and it has stayed alive and it even had some half hearted blossom in spring. And now we are in the full throes of summer it has borne lustrous fruit - nectarines not cherries. I had no idea as this did not happen last year. I suppose it has yielded 2 big fruit bowls full. I have picked them while still very firm as the birds and possums and even dogs have shown great interest in them and had their fair share.
I have been enjoying them fresh immensely and even poached some. They cut in half perfectly and the stone comes away easily. I adore nectarines both yellow and white and now to have this tree in my garden bearing my favourite fruit is just amazing. Thankfully I did not cut this "cherry" tree down and now I have great reason to nurse it back to full health.
Wishing all and sundry a happy and safe and restful holiday !! The big day here is nearly over and it has been spent laughing and eating. A lot of both !! I am hoping that all of blogland can enjoy their day as much as I have enjoyed mine. Love to all !!
Despite having my fireplace turned into a cupboard I have hung 2 big stockings in my backyard in the vain hope that Santa may drop by. As you can see the weather is very summery and the stockings are blocking gently in the breeze. Neon pink is not a traditional Christmas colour but is fits the alfresco feel of Christmas in Australia. Besides they will match the rose we will be drinking on Christmas Day.
My new artwork is finally in position, up and hanging on the wall in our living/family room. My sister bought several canvases back from India and she gave me one. She had it stretched onto a frame so all I had to do was get the picture hook. Well, I move slowly with DIY type projects and so we have had this lovely canvas propped up agains the wall for some months. Not any more !! It now takes pride of place in our family room. It is lovely with bright colours but not so bright they shout primary school at you.
