Our accommodation has been excellent and I have been able to capture the extreme differences of the dilapidated exterior and the pristine interior. The whole of St Petersburg is hidden behind closed doors probably due to their horrendous winter climate. Entire department stores lie behind sealed wooden doors and it is always a surprise to see what is before you. Below is the heavy metal. unmarked door leading to our accomodation. Note the broken cement step.
We then traipse up a very cold and run down stairway to another heavy duty and unmarked metal door. Note antiquated lighting.
Then we finally enter a lovely whitewashed hallway and our excellent B&B called Swisstar, run by a Swiss couple.
The next photos are of our closest 'supermarket'. A Safeway it's not !! There is more alchohol than food.
Ugh that is the least tempting supermarket I have ever seen!
