Rug washing !!! This is apparently an old tradition and takes place in Helsinki. People carry their rugs down to wash them in the sea and scrubbing tables, drying racks and wringers are there for their use. I could not believe I actually saw it happening. The powers that be are trying to phase out this tradition due to pollution. Sad but understandable and steam cleaners could soon be very busy.
I love your snippets on Finland... and the rug washing - very practical. I have a Finnish friend I would love to visit in the summer. (They live in Andorra in winter - warmer!)

I was surprised to find out that even in India there are places where you are no longer allowed to wash laundry in the river

It's too bad that pollution may bring an end to an interesting tradition. I love the rugs with the purple & orange circles :-)
